All in all, a pretty poor showing.
Clarke - 7 - Didn't have too much to do but didn't put a foot wrong. Hunt - 5 - Distribution was poor and offered nothing going forward. Raynes - 7 - Good defensively, didn't lose a header if I remember correctly. Wright - 6.5 - Similar to Raynes, was pretty solid defensively. Newey - 5 - Essentially a left footed version of Hunt. Williams - 6.5 - Had a good bit of running in him but was generally ineffective. Rowe - 5 - To think he was playing in League 1 in the first half of the season. Awful display from a man you'd expect much more from. Ruffels - 6 - He looked better, if only slightly, than Rowe. And with his age, you need to give him a bit of leeway. O'Dowda - 7.5 - Was the only player who didn't look afraid to have the ball at his feet. A very good prospect if he can build on this. Kitson - 4 - Awful display from a former Premier League player. No leadership despite his experience and didn't seem to play either as a striker or midfielder. Looked disintersted towards the end of the game and it's time for this war horse to call it a day. Beano - 6.5 - Nothing much he could have done with the lack of support given to him.
Subs: Potter - 8 - Lifted the spirits of the side and his direct running caused York problems. Would have had a bigger impact if brought on earlier. Connolly - 6 - Didn't have many chances in the game but looked positive and comfortable with the ball.
I'd like to know if I was watching the same game as everyone else. I admit I may have been harsh on Kitson, but someone with the wealth of experience and the talent he has should be driving the team forward, but he just looks disinterested.

Hunt's use of the ball was absolutely dreadful yet again. Got to play Bevans ahead of him, he's a liability.

Not doing full ratings but a few points, instead:
The full backs will prevent Waddock from playing any kind of attractive football. They simply are not good enough with the ball at their feet. I thought both were poor (and offensively have even all season).
Kitson was the only player who had any composure with the ball at his feet. In the second half he played a couple of magic passes that pierced their back line. Unfortunately, the dead heads around him don't think as quickly as he does so didn't capitalise on the opportunities.
Constable - I've said all I will about him previously, however he was too isolated to be able to make a positive impact today so not all his own fault.
Clarke is a fabulous keeper at this level and has won us points on his own at times this year. Unfortunately, his one major flaw is his distribution - poor again today.

I thought both were poor (and offensively have even all season). I think you're spot on, but I think they're probably a decent pair of L2 standard full backs. We asked a lot of them today. Yorks defenders didn't seem to be asked to make a single pass with a particular target in mind at any point. If this is the sort of set up we should expect from GW, we need to invest a lot in a couple of top quality full backs as a priority, because we tried to get a LOT of play going through them.

Kitson was awful if he was supposed to be playing as a striker, which in that formation must have been his role.
All the defenders failed to see either Williams or Dowda when they had found space, and the full backs were poor at backing them up.
Potter was neither better or worse than the other wingers - the problem was that Constable was alone.

Another who can't be bothered to do a full list of ratings....... a few points:
1. To be slagging Kitson off for his contribution as a striker because its what MUST have been his role is a little harsh, given that none of us know what instructions he was given by the management, personally i thought Kitson was one bright spot in the team, as someone said before me, a couple of great balls in the second half which almost created scoring opportunities for others, if Kotson plays right up top, who in the midfield is going to play these defence splitting passes?
2. Potter did reasonably well for me, its always difficult coming into a game from the bench as it takes some time to get up to the pace of the game, he did at least try to get at the full back when he had the ball and got a couple of crosses into the box.
3. 7.5 for O'Dowda - i think your letting your wish to see him succeed as a young player cloud your judgement on this one, he did "ok" but thats not going to win you games, i can't help but feel if he was on loan from somewhere he wouldn't have got a score as high as that. Did he create any opportunity to score when he did have the ball? That is one of the key roles of a wide midfielder/winger after all......... , 4. One thing i find frustrating is how the players want to blame the pitch on every occasion they lose a game at home, it may not be perfect but its certainly not in a condition that makes football impossible.
5. The Tempo is too slow, everything seems to take one touch too many, Wroe was particularly guilty of this today, or they play one pass too many to get the ball to the same destination....... for example, raynes had an opportunity today to drop the ball into beanos feet, instead he played to wroe, who gave back to raynes who then played the same pass to beano......all this codes is buys another couple of seconds to allow York to get in shape...... Im not asking players to rush the pass which would result in mistakes, butto do things at a decent pace which they are in control of.

With regard to CoD, I can think of two examples of him creating a chance. One was a good run and cross which was headed just wide (Constable?). A second move from him saw the ball going across the box and Williams failing to get his shot away when in good space. There may have been others but those are two from the first half at least.

COD can take people on and he's got a decent cross on him. He beat people both inside and outside which could be a real strength. There is something there. I think he could bulk up as he gets more involved in the first team, then he could be really useful.

Im sure O'Dowda will be useful in time, and as i have said before we can't expect him to perform to the level he apparently did at plymouth, so I'm not slagging him off......but i don't think he offered enough today....ive only really singled him out on this thread because of the high mark. Which was too high in my opinion......
I can't recall those incidents you mention, not saying they didn't happen but don't remember them.
I did feel the change of Potter for Williams was a strange one though, it wasn't the personell which was causing the problems as such, but the system, Constable needed some help....... surely the change needed to be one of the centre midfielders who didn't impose themselves on the game enough (perhaps because Kitson was in their space, but as mentioned before, i don't know what he was told to do so not a criticism) and to bring on Connolly earlier...Kitson obviously dropping back into midfield proper as he was effectively playing there anyway it wouldn't have resulted in much of a reshuffle.

That's what I would have done (if they hadn't lost my application to be manager down the back of the sofa)..
... taken Ruffels off (I thought he was poor today), told Kitson to stay in midfield and put Connolly up front with Constable. And I'd have done it earlier on. It's patently clear to anyone who has watched Beano, Smalley, Connolly, Kitson, Marsh, Uncle Tom Cobbley and all that we don't have a striker at the club who is willing and/or capable of being effective in a lone striker role. If we are going to play wingers, we have to give them at least two strikers to have a chance, if we are going to lump balls up front we need someone to get on the end of the headers that do get won, if Kitson is going to play balls through we need to create a bit of movement and room up front by have two strikers moving into space.

Kitson would have been better off seeing his career out in a champ club . He only came to us cos it's practical to his west london residence Kitson lives at Shinfield nr Reading and travels in with Maidenhead based Hunt. I thought Kits was our best player yesterday but he was getting frustrated (rightly given some of the decisions we made in the second half) Williams had to go off, surely? - he was poor and was petulant at times and lucky not to be cautioned. Seems to be easily dispossessed of the ball too frequently. Constable also was poor - hold up,link up play and control simply deserted him and he was completed dominated by John McCombe on the ground and in the air. Potter did make a bit of a difference but struggled to keep his feet on a terrible pitch down the right flank. He did slide a couple of great passes into the box late on. O'Dowda looks to have improved and Ruffels could have a good career too. The massive problem Oxford have is that we don't have top midfielder with Wroe no improvement on Chapman, Hall, Whing and Davies.

How anyone can give Hunt more than Zero is a mystery, not only was his distribution garbage, but his reading of the game is non existent. At least 4 times the long diagonal ball that York played all day,was heading towards the man Hunt was marking, each time it was clearly going over the forwards head and out of play for an Oxford throw, each time Hunt felt the need to get his head on it and concede a throw to York,on one of the occasions Wright was screaming "leave it" at him,yet he still got his head on it. The management also get a big fat zero from me,did anyone from Oxford actually go to watch York play before yesterday! The are a big physical long ball team, yet we pick the most lightweight midfield ive seen in years, and hit long balls up to Constable, playing on his own, with two monster centre halves stood behind him. Everyone on here knows I am not Constables biggest fan,but if you play the man,at least give him a chance with some decent balls.

Hunt - big, strong, powerful, but slow and poor control and distribution - make a good centre half Newey - big, strong, powerful but poor control and distribution - make a good centre half Raynes - big, strong, powerful but slow and poor distribution - make a good centre half Whing - big , strong, powerful but slow and poor distribution- make a good centre half Wright - big but slow and poor distribution - make good centre half Kitson - big, good control but slow. Thinks he is something special and can play where he wants so argues and acts like a prima donna. Make a better centre half who could bring the ball forward unlike the others.
The defense needs to push up and support the midfield and have better basic footballing skills. Team constructed by a manager who tries to grind out results too scared of failure but fortunately gone

We didn't work it well enough to get the wingers isolated, the full backs NEVER overlap so its pretty much a case of 'here you go, do what you can' whenever our wingers get the ball. Its nearly always them against two defenders with very little space to work in. Not saying I agree with the rest of his ratings, but I think its unfair to criticise O'Dowda who I thought did quite well.

Another vote for Kitson being our best player from me. I am sure some of our fans have no idea about quality and that it is quite important to be able to control a football. Kitson did that. Beano did not. His control was shocking. Having no support and being isolated has nothing to do with that.

Kitson is a class above the rest but he was supposed to be up front within Beano but he spent most of his time in the midfield leaving Beano isolated. But he annoys me when being a very tall man not winning headers and then looking at the ref with his arms flapping, Play to the whistle we were always told, he's a highly paid professional would expect a bit better from the man.
