Chatting to a mate in the pub last night (yes i know) who gets most stuff right i have to say, he reckons Beano is on his way to Pompey next year, nice increase in salary as well.
So Mr Lenegan, if this is true how about signing some decent players sooner rather than later.

What do you mean? Did your mate in the pub forget to tell you he is out of contract so will leave on a free? So no big transfer fee to spend. Are you suggesting Mr Lenagan should sign Beano up with a nice increase in salary? Hardly good business for a striker that is struggling to get into double figures every season is it?

This is a discussion forum, conjecture and hearsay are part of the fabric of Yellows, so this is a perfectly valid post. On the other hand, do me a favour! Chatting with a mate in the pub? Who is this mate? What is his inside track to confidential information about our squad? What stuff has he ever "got right"? Why should we take this story seriously? Why are we even wasting our time thinking about it particularly, as has been said, as Beano is out of contract so IL has no money to spend from any move? So, decent gossip or pointless waste of time?

Here we go, silly season has started before the end of the actual season this year!

If beano gets offered any sort of contract here I think he will stay here. He doesn't seem to care about money, he just wants to play for a club where he is loved.

I think that it will be Mr Waddock rather than Il who will be deciding whether he wants to keep Beano and if not who he may want in his place. regardless how on earth can you expect any signings now with 4 matches plus the play offs to come and with players contracts not expiring to the end of June? As somebody suggested the silly season has started already.

Theoretically, Constable could already have signed a pre-contract agreement with another club - he's old enough, and his contract has less than six months to run.
However it would seem rather strange behaviour for Portsmouth (Beano is already paid pretty well for League Two, we think, so a raise would seem unlikely after another 10-15 goal season) and the man himself, who's always come across as a loyal soul who would ideally like to stay at Oxford.

This story reminds me of a former striker who who had signed for another club for the next season 8 weeks before we announced it. Could be true and if it is then very unlikely we'll know before season tickets start selling.

Is it any coincidence that apparently at Plymouth (I wasn't there) as soon as we start playing on the front foot in a more aggressive and attacking manner, he suddenly looks a better player?

As people in this thread have said, anyone who is out of contract in the summer could have agreed a pre-contract from as early as January whilst IL has said in the Oxford Mail that him and Waddock have spent hours and hours together over the last week or so planning for next season's squad. We could have agreed deals with players already but we won't hear anything until after the season/contract start running out regardless.

My guess is Portsmouth will invest heavily in players over the summer as there is certainly going to be a clear out, and despite not looking to have much money, the fans in charge of that club will commit the same mistakes that all owners seem to do in overspending.
As for Beano going to Pompey, personally I dont see it. I completely understand his hero worship here due to his exploits in the conference, scoring at Wembley, against the scum etc. but if you look at it from a non Oxford point of view, as my Leicester supporting mate pointed out, if he had been signed since we had been in League 2 he would likely have left the club by now. Will Portsmouth be looking at a player who, sadly, hasnt performed as well as he has in the past? Its going to upset a lot of people, but I really have a feeling Beano will be going when his contract is up this summer. If we make League 1 then I would say its a certainty.
With regards to our summer activity, Lenegan was in the OM stating that he had spent a session sat with GW going over targets for the summer so the work is most certainly being done.

Brett Williams could be a good Addition from Waddock's old club Aldershot. Hope he's being looked at!
As for Constable, if he goes he goes, I for one wont miss him! Yet I will remain grateful for what he did in the conference. League two is his level. I think we can find better if im honest! Im not having a pop at him before you all shoot me down, just think a move would be right for both parties.

They signed Craddock didn't they True and his best season for us, his first season where he scored 15 goals, has been better than Beano every season bar Beanos first where he got 17 (although Craddock did spend the first month of his first season at Luton) so I suppose on that basis Portsmouth might be interested in Beano.

Not particularly fussed if he does go. Been a great servant to the club and all that and I hope he gets the record, but as with the CW management situation, I think our attacking options are due a bit of a "refresh".

The Beano thing has been done time and time again. The old saying 'the grass isn't always greener' comes to mind. Wilder went, and many were glad to see the back of him, but we are probably going to finish lower in the league without him. If Beano goes then we could see our top scorer end up on less than him, minus the work rate and general assist play he provides. There haven't been many players in the last 10 years that fans have idolised but he is one.

I agree with you IL should have done more to keep Wilder and also if beano was to be let go will be a massive mistake. His record speaks for itself, best striker since dean windass. Not just all the goals but his work rate is exceptional
