Gills boss Martin Allen on #oufc goalkeeper Ryan Clarke: "I had to check the team sheet to make sure Joe Hart wasn't playing." Inspired management by CW to bench Clarke and give him a wake-up call then?! Hmmm....opens his mouth and lets cw know the truth...then gets dropped , more like.

Great result, a draw against the runaway leaders at the top of the league. Personally, I think that IF we can keep the good performances coming, we WILL get promoted. Gillingham (top) and Wycombe (bottom) aside, the league table will be very close this year and just 75 points could get us into the auto places.

Personally think it's Clarke that deserves most/all the credit, because ultimately it's up to the player as to how they react.

Of course, can't go around giving the manager credit for the decisions he makes. Only when it back fires.

Of course, can't go around giving the manager credit for the decisions he makes. Only when it back fires. Shock you're talking rubbish. There was no big plan by Wilder to drop Clarkey in order to give him a wake-up call. The fact was Clarke (along with most of the squad) had been playing poorly, and thus was dropped. He was only reinstated so quickly due to an injury to Brown. Now, having been dropped despite being one of the club's key players the last few years & a fans favourite, he could easily have sulked & let his head drop further. However, he didn't. He stood up & made sure he was counted. It is testament to the player's strength of character therefore that he was able to put in a motm performance today so soon after being dropped.

Yes, Clarke has reacted exactly as he as a professional should and come out and performed brilliantly. Great. Well done him. But you have admitted in that rather strange rant that he has reacted by standing up and making sure he was counted, which means his performances have improved due to being dropped. Well done him, well done Wilder.
If Clarke had sulked and performed worse, you can be sure as hell, Wilder would be getting stick. Nothing wrong with giving him some credit when he gets it right.
What in what I said was rubbish? You seem to be agreeing with me that the performance was, in some way a result of Wilder's management.

A 0-0 home draw against Gillingham may look on paper pretty uninspiring, but in context I don't think it's a bad result at all. It puts a big full stop after that dreadful run, it confirms a good clean sheet, introduces us to a new and very decent centre back and ends the incredible sequence of away game victories from the league leaders.
All in all, a very good point indeed. Still plenty to work on to start moving up the table again, but the point and clean sheet will only inspire the team.

I was working today so therefore listened to the game whilst working (cough)
Mullins sounded impressive. Clarke sounded incredible and Boateng sounded 'unorthadox"
So it's all positive and we're going to get promotion now, yes?

Weirdly I actually enjoyed boateng's contribution. I thought he got better & more confident as the game went on.
Was impressed by our play down th left hand side. Rigg & O'Brian look to have a good understanding going.

Mullins was no muggins. Boateng won the boat race and Clarke - what a great bluddy spark of genius! Martin Allen comparing him to Gordon Banks is the highest accolade. I had goose pimples when I heard that!
I've been guilty of knocking the team and management just lately - so its only fair that I say 'well done' to those same people, over the last two games. Be honest- who'd of thought we'd get anything against Jill in ham? And Wimblegone won away as well!

That was the best performance of the season in my opinion, particularly in the circumstances.
