I am not going to harp on about this however, I have just watched the closing ceremony of the paraplegic games. We try and justify our position with regards to how we play, manage, and support. What a bunch of numpties we really are, kiss the badge = kiss my arse as I earn more than you, tired = do me a favour, skill = really! I really do believe that what we have seen over the last months is something we should appreciate as as sure as hell we will never see it again in our country in our lifetime.
All hail those people who have shown such commitment for so little return. Shame on those who propose to be athletes with the big buck as your god.

You do know that the 'para' part of 'paralympics' stands for 'parallel' don't you?

Slightly (OK, very...) oddly worded post, but I agree with the sentiment completely
I know I'm struggling to get into football again after the Olympics and Paralympics. After seeing the dedication, skill and sheer desire of these true sporting heroes, football just seems a massive let down. I've never felt this way before.

Slightly (OK, very...) oddly worded post, but I agree with the sentiment completely I know I'm struggling to get into football again after the Olympics and Paralympics. After seeing the dedication, skill and sheer desire of these true sporting heroes, football just seems a massive let down. I've never felt this way before. When the beeb football focus team was discussing this and the pitiful behaviour in football I thought mark lawrenson et al were pretty pathetic. They basically said yeah but footballs different, its a faster game, more passion, etc. Which is of course all apologist bullux (hockey is twice the speed of football for a start). I've been off top flight and international football for years, kinda lucky that Oxfords been in the basement really because most of the really pathetic stuff hasn't come down to this level. I've taken up hockey this year (bit of a late convert but it turns out you can play well into your 50's so I should have a good few years left yet!). I still play football as well but inevitably I compare the two and do wonder what the big deal is (especially when football is being played on the neighbouring pitch and their bloody great beach-ball keeps bouncing across). Have you ever considered getting down to your local hockey club and try out training? (mow's a good time to go as most clubs have only just returned in the last week or two). Oxford has a couple of clubs, one of them in particular is very strong. (You'll just need shin pads and a gum shield). No matter how bad you are, I can guarantee they'll be somebody worse! I'm manly suggesting this as I'm kinda curious if it would have the same effect on you!

Didn't see that episode of football focus, but the attitude of Lawrenson etc doesn't surprise me at all. For me the issue I have with football is mainly the lack of skill and basic technique in this country. When you watch hockey or handball or pretty much any other fast paced sport you see skill and technique that is simply absent in English players bar the odd fluke like a Gazza or Joe Cole. So its not so much the sport of football but the way we play it in this country. Sport should evolve and Spain have shown that football is no different. But where is this kind of vision in England?
What I'm struggling to get back into is the watching of football not the playing..

Browser - I understand and sympathise with the point you're making, but your second sentence is rather embarrassing. Please look up "paraplegic". As has already been pointed out, the Paralympics are parallel games to the full Olympics, open to people with a wide range of disabilities.
