Bit of a non-story really. The whole world is probably surprised by the success of the Jamaicans in the sprints, but I don't for one second suspect any foul play. And nor does this story suggest any foul play - all it suggests is that the French need to try and think of a plan to get some ground back on the British. I suspect the other national cycling commitees will be having the same discussions too.

Typical Sun trying to turn a bit of friendly banter into something more
Lots of things for us to be proud of at the moment. Our tabloid media is not one of them and its them who are pathetic not the French.

They must be really p*ssed off after Kenny also beat their sprint star last night.
GB have dominated cycling on the track for the last 8 years or so, so its hardly a surprise. They are probably also hacked off that we are also now doing so well in their tour.

The French quotes suggest nothing about drugs at all, it is The Sun who has drawn that conclusion.

The Aussies are the big surprise for me so far. Just 2 golds and likely to fall well short of their Beijing total. They seem to blame it on the amount of lottery funding going to GB sports.

Difficult to use the word blame for other countries putting money in to sports... unless they mean they blame their own apparent underfunding.

To be fair to the French, what else would the Sun expect them to say?
"We don't need need to be concerned about anything. We don't need to up our game, or look at ways of improving our preparation. Everything is fine in the French camp. We're actually quite happy to get continuously thrashed by the British".

Here's a bit of nationalistic stereotyping - the Americans, Australians and French are the worst bunch of whinging losers on the planet. Just look at Arsene Wenger. Or maybe it shows a healthy competitive nature?

Personally I think the Russians are the biggest surprise, the Aussies have said they need to take a good look at their swimming programme as the rest of the world has moved on. I guess in the same way Warne and McGrath covered over a few cracks in their cricketing programme, Ian Thorpe flattered they swimming performances. Still, they'll be back.

Both quotes seem to suggest something Only to the easily suggestible. Both quotes are taken without context and re-quoted in a suggestive (and shabby) article with the intention of appealing to knuckle draggers. "Do they have a technology, a secret preparation?" is a perfectly reasonable question, one you would be daft not to ask. "Wonder how she could win the 800m so easily with no pain. Surprising." is one tabloid journo re-quoting another with some dubious french-english translation going on in the middle no doubt (and still says nothing).

So what is that French person alluding to when he / she says about Ennis: “Wonder how she could win the 800m so easily with no pain. Surprising.”
I detect a bit of sarcasm in there

Yes, you are right, I did not phrase the sentence too well. An Aussie sports reporter on BBC1 this morning seemed to imply that GB sports had more lottery funding and hence more gold medals.

I am probably missing something here, but what offensive thing has Moobs done to warrant a 25% increase to his warning level. He used a derogatory term for the French. Some may argue that it's not offensive as say the N word or P word, but others will say it is. Best thing to do is use the correct verb which is simply 'The French'. That way things aren't subject to scruitiny.
