Mainly going to watch GB in the hockey (women a decent chance of gold IMHO) and men’s football. Agree, I think both ladies and men a ranked 4th but personally I reckon the ladies have a decent chance. Danson could be a big name after the tournament. Cant see passed the Aussies for the mens, with the other medals going to the Dutch and Germans. The GB men do seem to have a bit of form though.

Went to OT last night. Boring game with very little atmosphere. Very lucky to come away with a draw, their number 10 was dangerous. Giggs was anonymous. And to make things worse they ran out of pies before the Uruguay game and the beer was warm. I hope the rest of the Olympics are better than last night.

Team GB in the mens football is the only event that neither the players or fans really care about

I hope Team GB lose, we haven't taken it seriously enough and i'd rather other teams won it, like Japan....

If you believe what the pundits say - all our cycle road race team have to do is turn up tomorrow and the gold is there for the taking by Cavendish.
I've go a feeling he might just struggle going over Box Hill 9 times.
I have a sneaking suspicion about the Slovakian rider - Peter Sagan - spoiling the party.

Supposedly, the Men's Road Race has never actually come down to a bunch sprint before.
Because the largest team is 5 (rather than 8 in the TdF), it's tougher to chase down a breakaway. And because it's such a one off - and finishing third is pretty cool - breakaway riders tend to work together pretty well.
If it comes down to a sprint, Cav will take it. But there's no guarantees at all that it will......

Not surprised Cav didn't win - but disappointed.
The BBC coverage was diabolically bad. Hugh Porter must be the worst commentator ever.

They spent too much time bitching about the lack of data. Which is fine the first couple of times but when they kept going on and on about it, it got boring.
I do like all of the TV channels though. It's almost too much but it's being able to just switch between sports easily.

Well i tried to catch the olympic bug and sat down to watch Cavendish win the first british gold medal, thought he only had to turn up! I know nothing about cycling but couldnt understand how the commentators insisted GB had the race in full control when 30 riders were a minute in front of them up the road. Dont know why I was surprised, at the end he "bigged up" the race for 4th place when 30 had already finished. I then watched a bit of volleyball and I know nothing about that either, I did recognise a battering when I saw one and a 21-12 thrashing said it all. The commentator then said how fantastic one player had been and what great support the other had provided, there is only two in the team! Where do they get their "experts" from? Will watch darts tonight, watch some propper athletes!

I don't think they ever said they were in control when the 30 riders were ahead.... they were saying it though when the original 12 breakaway riders were a minute or so ahead... which was a totally different thing. Blame the Germans.... but they must be kicking themselves as I reckon their splinter would have beaten Cavendish anyway.

They appeared to want to blame everyone except themselves afterwards. Surely the idea is to go the correct pace throughout the race? They assumed the leaders had gone too fast, they hadnt, GB and rest went too slow and the leading group didnt fall in a heap as they expected. Surely thats their own fault and no one elses? In big horse races Aiden OBrien will often enter a pacemaker to ensure a truely run race if his main fancy is a hold up horse, insuring they are not stuck at the back in a slowly run race. Same principle or not?

In big horse races Aiden OBrien will often enter a pacemaker to ensure a truely run race if his main fancy is a hold up horse, insuring they are not stuck at the back in a slowly run race. Same principle or not? Because the Germans didn't have anyone in the breaks and they had a very good, and only, chance of winning the gold medal if they had also contributed to chasing down the breakaways... especially the one on the final circuit. But they hardly contributed at all. In pro cycling it's never left to just one team to chase down such breaks, especially if that team has just four workers, but also other teams with sprinters. The pace to go at during a race is one in which you still have the time to chase down any breaks... which they did have covered until the last one when the break away group increased from 12 to 30 riders... they then had no chance as a group of just four riders in chasing that one down... that's why it was the Germans fault. No, horse racing is totally different... it might be similar to a pacemaker used in running where it's individuals, but not in a bike race where it's a team effort until the last 500 yards for teams hoping to win with a sprinter.

Men's GB football team 3-1 now. If only Bellamy and Giggs were English and 10 years younger. Sinclair changed the game scoring 52 seconds after coming on.
Spain are on the verge of going out as they are losing 1-0 to Honduras

Why are people so surprised Paula Radcliffe couldn't run the Marathon? Hasn't she been crocked for ages? Age means her time has passed. She was great 10 years ago, but it's a young person's game and you can't keep running marathons and not have a negative reaction in your body.

I think the fact it was being held in London that she attended. It was no surprise she dropped out as you said - better it happened that way than get horribly shown up by younger fitter athletes. I'm assuming she will go into retirement, and if she does, at least she can hold her head high and take her mantle as one an all-time great marathon runner.

At her best, Radcliffe was phenomenal. Almost robot like. I can't recall a British long distance runner controlling their sport so much. It's a shame she didn't get an Olympic gold medal, but when someone like Kelly Holmes gets a lot PR and Dameship for winning 2 Golds, it's only appropriate for someone who dominated their sport to get likewise.
Lets hope Team GB has a great day tomorrow.

That's the thing about Sport. Kelly Holmes was never a sensational athlete. She is a good example of a competitor working hard and peaking at the right time, everything fell perfect for her in 2004. Radcliffe on the other hand has been unlucky and will be remembered for not winning the Olympics.
