All this banter with our A420 shitheads is very stimulating. There are many intelligent postings on here about the rivalry. I think that I would like to lower the tone by mentioning what Northstand 12 referred to a little while back about Oxford being in the Cuckoo Lane. Regardless of your views on life and football it was a very funny event. I don't think Swindon get it. I think we are more intense about this than them. It's not even a hooligan thing. Even normally law abiding Oxford fans become a bit mental for this one. Inevitably some will cross the line. Swindon fans are right, we are obsessed about this. It's tribal and both Swindon and the media are in for a shock. Everyone will come out for this one. This means more to us than them and their lack of passion is embarrassing for them. Bless them, they do try but they know they can’t compete and so they try and look smart. They can come out with their putdowns but at the end of the day they know our fans have more bollocks, this is what football is about and we have bossed Swindon since we first played them. Never forget we took the Town End. They must live with that. But going back to the Cuckoo Lane story. Right in the middle of their support, right in the middle of all their songs and hatred for Oxford they shit their pants when Oxford made their presence felt. I don't care about whether this is pc or not, it happened, it was funny and it showed that Swindon will never match our intensity and passion. End of.

It becomes very tribal and I can even see some of the most mild mannered fans doing things they wouldn't normally dream of doing...

I think what we are experiencing are some very young (to me that's under 25) Scum fans who have little if any knowledge of what the general football hooligan scene used to be like 20-30 years ago, or how that scene still permeates the well-established Oxford-Swindon rivalry.
Statements like "we don't care about you" and "older Swindon fans consider Bristol City to be their main rivals" show just how little they know about the feelings of their overall fan base, and how little we should take them seriously.
I wonder whether our own younger fans feel the same lack of passion? Maybe it's an age thing.

Taffy-Tours is right. Don't think you have to be worried about the younger fans. At the ripe old age of 24 I have been well informed by family over the years as have many others I spend time with.
Only seen one Oxford Swine league game which was at the manor think we lost 3-2 can't honestly remember now but have not forgotten that atmosphere in the left side of LR.
Alot I know are very excited about the prospect of the away game.

I heard an 11 year old Man Utd fan who lives in my street, say to another kid, Oxford are playing Swindon next season, that's going to kick off.
Seems like even young kids understand the bitter hatred. Though if Philips knows he said that, I imagine he will be arrested and given a 3 year ban

Excellent original post by Cowleyox.
As one of the group that went in the Cuckoo Lane that day (probably 1,500 of them and 50 of us) I can confirm that once they realised we were Oxford they absolutely shat themselves and scattered in all directions!
Scum, know your place.

Yeah, that's right, a fair few Abingdon were present. In fact one of the Abingdon lads, called Boose, went onto one of the scum coaches, that were parked up and empty, and took their Union Jack scum flag. When we got to the Cuckoo Lane entrance the stupid scum fans cheered us, as they thought we were scum fans.
Two minutes later they discovered we weren't!
I think it was very early eighties and it was after kick off when we went in.
It was a Saturday, not a night game.

My first game against them was the one after the previous long gap (8 years). Was about 1989-90 and we went there on a Sunday and got beat 3-0. We had 40 or so on a coach from Newbury. I don't think I had looked forward to anything that much. Got in the ground at about 2 and was arrested for a breach of the peace by 5 past 2. I was the second one arrested that day (at least in the ground, after a bloke who pulled his trousers down so the copper almost had to drag him) and got a brilliant "we're proud of you" chant from the Oxford section as I got taken round the edge of the pitch. Showered with spit and coins by their lot on the Stratton Bank. After the game the (by this time 100+) of our lot got released from the nick. They were trying to organise an escort for us when a tannoy system powered up and the following message "would (insert my name) come to the front desk as his Dad wants to come and pick him up". I almost puked with embarrassment! Although, getting back to Newbury from Swindon on a train on Sunday night would have taken for ever. Needless to say the old man wasn't best pleased but it was all worth it for the rapturous hero's welcome I got back when I entered the pub in Newbury. Happy days.
